Our project is intended to be a platform for people in poverty to express their own messages, a way to unveil the real problems to the rest of the society, and a way to increase understanding.
This is a project collaborated by Owen and Grace, we are looking into SoMa district in San Francisco. Based on our primary research we found out that the SoMa district is suffering from a huge gap of wealth. This huge fundamental differences between two groups of people, rich and poor, made this community apart and separated, and this situation is not beneficial to both of these two groups of people.
Therefore, we are focusing on breaking down the psychological boundary between the people in their poverty, and people who are much more well-off. First empower people who are in the poverty, then generate empathy and eventually led other wealthier people to help those people who are in poverty. Imagery and languages are always the strong elements to tell a story. So we are going to utilize those power and create a series of campaign advertisements based on real story and research. First, we are going to talk to real people who are suffering from this situation, and base on the interview we are going to create a series of posters, advertisement and a video. |
AuthorAs a future industrial designer, Owen choose this area because of a simple reason: to make this world a better place. He always believe in the power of design, since everything man-made are designed. Whether a product or service is well-designed or badly designed, it definitely has someone’s thinking behind it, and it can make an impact to this world. Owen was really interested in the methodology of creating stuff, and the methodology of creating well-designed stuff, which can result in making an impact on people’s lives. |
